Tabes for the Babes – Episode 2

With the release of Ryan’s Tabes for the Babes Episode 2 in the coming days, I thought we would get a few words from both Ryan & Jourdan Barba.

First up is Ryan & tomorrow we will have a few words from Jourdan.

So Ryan, I am really stoked on these trips you are doing. How did the idea come about to do them?

The start of last year I moved to California from Greenville, North Carolina. It kind of started the first week I was here there seemed to be endless parks and trails. So every time I rode a new park I snapped a photo of it and made an album of spots around here. I stole the idea from Cooper Brownlee, haha. Just by doing that made me want to travel more because riding new spots improved my riding so much more, than riding the same spot over and over. So being back out in California anytime my sponsors wanted to do a road trip whether it was Vans or Monster, we got the chance to use their RV’s. It was just always so amazing having like 10 riders and a driver, not always being crammed in a van, so I decided to buy a cheaper version.

Since last year when we came out to Cali with the team, the RV has taken a major overhaul. You gotta be stoked with the outcome? It looks a million bucks now.

So I bought the RV myself but I really wanted all my sponsors help so I kind of turned it into a long term project. First I hit them up about wrapping the whole thing which was the most expensive part of it. Then kicker hooked up all the speakers inside so now it has 4 subs and 10 speakers. It’s got 2 TV’s and a Vans checkered feel on the inside. So to me, it looks like a million bucks. I definitely get a lot of looks and people yelling at the RV when I’m driving down the road.

What was your favourite place or spot you hit up?

Theres been so many favorites, because every trip I’m trying to take it somewhere I’ve never been before, so every trip is an adventure. This last trip we got to ride this really cool ditch in Las Vegas. It was so good it could almost be considered a concrete skate park.

Who did the move of this trip in your eyes? What was it?

To me it was Jourdan’s riding in general. Just because he’s such a street machine. He looks at everything so differently compared to me. So every time he would call something out to film it would blow my mind because it was such opposite tech riding than what I normally do. He has so many combos when it comes to rails.

Any cool stories or happenings off the bikes?

What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

Plans for the next one? Where are you thinking of hitting?

One spot I’ve always heard about and wanted to visit, is called the Sunken Sea. It’s meant to be an abandon town with a bunch of abandon swimming pools to ride. So I’m working on making that happen right now. And another dream trip I want to do is an all trails trip with a few different riders but that’s going to be hard to do because unless your a local that digs there is going to be hard to show up an expect to start filming. But it’s not completely impossible.

Most should be aware that you took a hard crash recently & were admitted to hospital. How is the recovery going?

Just real slow and painful. Even right now I’ve got my girlfriend typing this for me. Without Kelsey nursing me I’d probably still be in the hospital. The doctors said no physical activity for 3 months, but with her support I’m sure ill be back within a month.

Any thanks?

Of course, always have thanks. Huge thanks to all my sponsors who have stuck behind me all these years Monster, Vans, Colony, Pro-tec, Ethika, and Epic Bike Shop, all my friends who visited and wished me a speedy recovery, huge thanks to Kelsey for helping me get back on my bike, a massive thank you to Dylan Phol who spent so much time filming these road trips and putting out these edits, and most of all thanks to all the fans who sent me funny photos and messages to cheer me up while I was in the hospital, I didn’t realize how much support I really had.

Dubbo trip

Zac just got back from a trip with the Backbone guys…

Last weekend was sick, Rhys got most of the Backbone crew together and hit the road heading out to the Midwest of NSW. We hit up Will and Chris’s trails on our way through Youngs, I sat back and watched the boys shred the dirt! We then hit up a heap of parks like Manildra, Dubbo and Milthorpe.. It was just a real good trip to hang out with the Backbone crew. Thanks to Jason Cousins for driving in his tour van. If anyone out there wants to do trips up and down the coast you should definitely scope out roadtripz.com.au

Bobbie Altiser update…

Bobbie shot through an update of the latest with him over in Missouri…

Hello world. I’ve gotten pretty into road cycling over the last couple of months. Averaging around a 100 miles a week, or about 160 km depending on where you’re reading this from. Nothing too crazy.. Spring is here, my local park opened up for the season and I’ve also been working on kind of a secret ramp set up in the back of the shop that I work at. For the most part I am building everything out of wood from old skateparks, construction sites, houses.. pretty much anything I can get my hands on. Trying to save a bit of money! Ha ha. Slowly coming along though. Anyway, that’s what I’ve been up to!

Colony x Type 2 Detectives

Here is something a little outside the usual BMX world here but one many will appreciate regardless. For many months now we have been working on this joint project together with Type 2 Detectives in the UK, who are one of the more famous VW custom shops on the planet. To have them contact us and offer such a colab was an honour and one that we could not pass up.

Basically the plan was to build to our own look and specs, an awesome and very rare, 1965 VW Type 3 Squareback panel van. The idea was to make it into vintage look company car, complete with roof racks for a couple bikes. The perfect promo vehicle and a lot of fun to boot. It was debuted at the world class Volksworld show this past weekend in the UK with some great feedback. The end result turned out awesome and exactly how we wanted it to look. Thanks heaps to Paul and his team at the Type 2 Detectives. Hit them up for any of your VW needs. Check out their website and their FB page.

More Zac Miner…

Miner shot through another update…

So in the last week or so I’ve been hitting a few places just out of canberra. I went to Goulburn for a roll, the place is huge but the ramps are weird which makes for an interesting ride. Also went out to Bungendore which is only half hour outta canberra but its got a sick little bowl and the kids there were loving the chance to get some free stickers! Also big news in Canberra. Act jam is back and it’s gunna be sick. Over the long weekend there will be jams at 3 iconic skateparks finishing up with a BBQ at Backbone. Gunna be an epic weekend, everyone should come!!

Jourdans custom paint

I spotted this online and was immediately psyched on it! Custom artwork on frames is something I am really into so I’ve hit up Jourdan for some more photos but for now you get to see a sneak peek with this shot.

Ryan Guettler update…

Ryan just got back from Woodward West trip where he learnt some new moves and had a blast, there is a comp on up there this weekend which Ryan will be at as well. You can see in the photos he is trying out the new Protec full face helmet so we will see how he goes with some more testing. Ryan has also been invited to a Redbull comp in Mexico called Red Bull Dirt Conquers! So be on the lookout for that very soon.

Zac Miner update…

Zac shot through an update…

It’s been a crazy couple of months of late, I moved into a new house with a couple of locals around my area, I went down to Melb’s for a weekend a while back which was good to hang out with the crew down there, watching Marnold trying an ice down a sketchy rail was crazy! I’ve also been up to Sydney a couple of times. Went to bowlarama in Bondi to watch my cousin skate, pretty much rained out the whole weekend which sucked but got to party with my mum and aunty at the after party which was hilarious! Along side of working an 8 to 5 I’ve picked up a job at Smoque which is a Texas smoked bbq restaurant, the food is off the chain, if your ever in canberra you’ve gotta give it a crack.

Undercover dirt spot in Vancouver

Brandon Van Dulken scored a pic or two in a photo gallery over on The Union site. They are at a special undercover dirt spot in Vancouver, Canada. One of the only dry spots to ride at the moment over there.

Thanks to the guys at Kill Em All Distro for the heads up. For any dealers in Canada looking to get our products, hit Kill Em All up for the goods.
