Nick Watts – Welcome to Colony

Ever since the early ‘90’s I’ve been in awe of the riding from Nick Watts.

His take on flatland has always been so amazing and unique. Fast forward 30 years later and that riding is even more unique.

I’m so stoked to announce that Nick has officially joined the Colony family. If anyone follows Nick on Instagram @nickwattsbmx you will know what I’m talking about. His style is so refreshing and a great mix of old and new riding.

I’m really looking forward to the years ahead with Nick on a Colony. I know Nick was so stoked receiving his first ever sponsorship package in all his riding years. Seeing him like a kid at BMXmas was golden. Cheers for the good times ahead Nick!… Clint Millar.

Simon O’Brien Tokyo trip

Hey guys, Recently I was super fortunate to be invited to the G-Shock Real Toughness contest at Tokyo Dome. This event is organised by BMX legend Hiroshi from 430 and G-Shock. They are doing a lot for the
culture of BMX in Japan! The event was nothing short of amazing! From the best flatlanders, top street riders, skaters and best bboys in the world!! The action that went down was nuts!!

Unfortunately for me, a few too many touches kept me from proceeding in the comp. I was happy with some of the tricks i did, but just couldn’t ride away properly. I was only in Tokyo for a few days but the rest of the time was spent partying with the street and flat riders. Ed Zunda, Lashaan, Fudger, Reed Stark and the other boys love a drink, so it was a fun time….they are cool guys!

Once again…..another Epic Tokyo memory! Huge shout out to Hiroshi uehara / owner of 430.

Simon O’Brien update

I’ve just got home from my trip to Hawaii for the annual Flatland ‘Aloha Jam’ ! I had heard a lot of good things about Hawaii, and I sure wasn’t disappointed! In total I spent 8 days in Honolulu with some day trips around the island. The jam was on the saturday in a park which had two basketball courts, overlooked some of the city and the ocean. It was a little windy on the day but some great riding went down with no pressure to perform for a contest. The whole vibe of the jam was to hang out, meet new people, BBQ, and enjoy the basic feeling of BMX which is just hanging out and riding! Prizes were handed out throughout the day.

I was lucky enough to get to swim at pipeline, swim with turtles, meet lots of new people, enjoy great weather and enjoy riding as usual. The Hawaiian crew are a great bunch of people! Hopefully I make it again next year.

What I Ride - Simon O'Brien

Shane Badman update

Hey guys!

Ahhhh summer – it’s here! I’m writing my first update from Adelaide, where I’m originally from but last lived here about 10 years or so ago before I went to Europe, Brisbane and a bunch of other places.

So the past few months have been beyond hectic with selling a house in Victoria, emptying and sorting out life, then packing everything into a truck and driving it over to Adelaide to start a new life. In between all this I’m stoked that I’ve been able to keen a fair bit of riding going which has been awesome.

I had a few really good demos that I did just before coming to Adelaide. The first one was with Nikon Australia where I worked with professional sports and action photographer, Mark Watson (who is a ninja when it comes to getting dope shots!). Mark was doing workshops over 3 days at the Nikon Digital Show that they were running at the Melbourne Convention Centre and what better way to instruct photographers than having a live test subject to photograph – me! So it was pretty awesome that flatland got centre stage and BMX got taken to a much different audience. After the workshops, we headed out into Melbourne and managed to catch some really good photos.

After the Nikon demos I had a week of riding at home before I flew out to Tasmania where I did the Derby River Derby festival. I had done this demo a few years back and it was a really good, chilled out vibe and more importantly a good crowd and there is also an awesome riding spot to have there. A lot of demos you do, you sometimes get pretty ordinary places to ride so it was really nice to have somewhere legit.

Massive thanks and shoutout to Mark Watson and Nikon for the workshops and also Matty Wootton and the rest of the Derby River Derby guys for inviting me out – cheers!

Since being back in Adelaide I’ve been trying to get myself sorted with my old riding spots. Once life settles back into a normal routine I have some really big things that I’d like to get onto for 2016 so watch this space!

Shane Badman update

Hey guys! Finally winter has passed and spring is here meaning that I can go back to riding regularly and without worrying if I’m gonna snap a finger off because of the cold!

To pass the final month of winter in Australia, I headed over to Europe for just under 4 weeks with my lady, Nina. We basically a week in the UK, Lake Como in Italy and in Greece where we did some sailing around the Greek Islands. The bike came with me (of course!) and I managed to get a bit of riding in which was awesome and catch up with a few friends over there while enjoying some awesome Euro summer weather.

The other cool thing was that Nina and I got engaged! Being a bit of Star Wars and James Bond fella, I popped the questions at one of the villas near Lake Como where the movies are filmed, so not only did she say yes but I have an awesome story to go with it haha!

Since being back in Australia it’s been pretty hectic as I’m about to be moving back to Adelaide in the next month which will be awesome. Before I go I’ve got a bunch of shows lined up with Nikon Cameras in Melbourne and at a festival in Derby River in Tasmania. Can’t wait, some good times on the road coming up.

The other thing I am really stoked on is the full 2016 Colony EXON Flatland range is now out and available worldwide. Massive thanks to Clint and everyone at Colony for being behind flatland since day I and making this happen!

Hopefully see all you guys out there riding! Check where I’m at on

Simon O’Brien update

Just a little update of what i’ve been up to of late……..

I’ve been doing a lot of recovering from being unwell towards the start of the year, which has involved finishing off study ( Diploma in Safety / WHS ) , getting back on the bike and finding work in my not so booming area.

I recently got hooked up on American clothing company ‘Biggest and Baddest’ who are right down my alley being all about hip hop, graff and breakdancing! I love their style and direction. Be sure to check them out everyone…such good quality!

I’m hanging out for the release of Colony’s EXON flatland line, it’s gonna be great! I’ve been working on a dvd section for Stewart Munro, which is good motivation.

Also starting to film for a section for Viki Gomez for the Tokyo film festival, I also have an upcoming art gig which will be different and fun. And heading to LA and Denver in October. Busy with my BMX which is great!

Shane & Simon update

Hey guys – just got home from an epic weekend! Simon O’brien and myself were recently asked to do shows for super producer and DJ, Mark Ronson at Splendour in the Grass where he headlined. He’s won a bunch of awards for his music, but has also produced for other massive artists like Amy Winehouse, Adele and Lana Del Ray. Crazy.

This year he put together a massive show to take around the world and for one of their tracks, The Bike Song, they wanted to have Flatland in it – stoked! While rain, a wet stage and tiny, tiny area to ride in made it tough, the massive crowd were stoked which was awesome.

Huge shout out to Mark Ronson and crew for getting BMX and flatland out there and putting on a massive show!
