Calling the shots!

We had a ball filming this at Chino park the other night. Thanks to Chris Long for filming this. The last clip was filmed literally 1 minute before the lights went out in the park. More videos from Network A here.

The Package #6

Colony team in the USA…

Today Tom Stretton, Cooper Brownlee, Peta Shepherd & myself are off to the USA to ride. A few days later Chris Courtenay & Alex Hiam will be meeting us in Cali as well where we will ride around & stay with Ryan Guettler.

Then the week of June 3rd till June 9th, we will all travel to Woodward West along with Jourdan Barba, Bobbie Altiser, Paddy Gross & Brandon Van Dulken. We will be at Woodward West to ride with the campers & film for an edit or two. If you’re lucky enough to be staying at Woodward West that week (week 1 of camp), make sure you come up & say hi to us all.

Colony in Shanghai

A few weeks back myself, Liam, Marnold and Brock headed over to China for the Asian X-Games. If you were following via the site you would know we had some crazy issues with missing bikes and Brock getting hurt but all in all it was a fun trip and this is the video we made from the days we spent riding after the comp was done. Thanks again to the locals for helping us out and make sure you grab the next 2020 mag that comes out for a full article about the trip.

Off to Shanghai, China…

Brock Olive, Marnold, Liam Zingbergs & Cooper Brownlee are all off to China today for the Asian X Games in Shanghai & too ride & explore the streets for a week afterwards. Expect some reports from over there whilst the guys are there. Should be a good trip for them all.

Travel tips with Cooper Brownlee

Check out this little travel tip that Cooper did over on the Focalpoint site.

Cooper Brownlee web video

Cooper Brownlee is a man of many talents. Whether it be with the artwork duties for us, our in-house photographer, team manager for all the guys, our in-house video editor & filmer he has it covered. He can also ride a bike damn well too & this video shows this rather well. I don’t know how he finds the time to do all that he does & still progress with his riding but he does. I was stoked to see this video & hopefully you will be too. Read on below for a little bit of what went into it…

Looks like it was filmed in a bunch of different cities, what city would be your favourite to ride & explore in Australia?

Yeah we filmed clips in Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane and Adelaide. That’s a real tough one though to answer as each state has its pros and cons, but if I had to pick one I would say Sydney, even thought there are no clips from Sydney in this haha.

For you personally were there any firsts for you in this edit?

The last 2 clips were for me and the over smith to bars was the first one I’ve done on street

If I remember correctly, the feeble easy 180 on the white rail at the start was your first one on street? And we were only there passing as we were getting kicked out. Did you secretly plan to do this trick previously, or was it a spur of the moment thing?I don’t remember you ever talking about it!

I honestly can’t remember if I’ve done one on a street down rail before but that white rail is so fun! Sam was filming me do a crooks combo on it originally but it wasn’t really working, I slipt onto a feeble one of the times and it got me thinking to try feeble 180. I honestly got real lucky on this one, just happened to be in the right spot for 180 on the 2nd attempt.

How does it feel to have your own signature bars out? How did it come about?

Yeah, real stoked! I had been running the first prototype set for about a year, I just put a new pair on last week. I was talking to Millar about needing a bigger set of bars and he hit me back with the idea. Definitely something to be stoked on, everytime I see a set on someone’s bike it’s a spin out!

It’s not often I see you crash so it was a surprise to see you go down on that ice grind. Did you take many other hits filming for this?

I have a lot of funny crashes because I mostly ride flat ledges and flat rails, I crashed pretty good on that feeble to hardway on the skinny ledge but it was mainly because I changed my mind when I got on the ledge to what trick I was going to do haha.

You have run a freecoaster for a number of years, and are now on the Colony prototype hub. Do you ever see yourself going back to a cassette or is it too important to your riding to think about going back? You may not do a huge number of fakie specific tricks, but I can see them not looking as good if you had to pedal backwards.

I can’t see myself going back at all really. These days I mainly ride street and I love it for it, like you said I don’t do a huge amount of coaster moves but it just feels so natural now and I love it!

What clip was the hardest to film?

The 180 wallride to opp smith 180 on the red banks took forever! 2-3 hours, we started when it was still daylight and when it got to dark we had to setup the generator haha. There was another clip I tried to film for this edit, going off the camera I tried it about 420 times over 3 visits with no luck! Hopefully I get it one day haha.

What would have been the most satisfying clip to film?

Probably the 2nd last clip just because I was stoked to ride a perfect ledge for it and get it pretty clean.

Myself and Mick are in Canberra right now filming for some web video projects. The weather has been perfect and things are flowing along pretty good.

Does Cooper ever stop?

Cooper Brownlee is a working machine. Whether it’s on the bike, on the computer or behind the lens, he never seems to stop. Hence how the name for the Twenty Four Seven Bars came about. Cooper lives & breathes BMX. He is on his way to Canberra to ride for the long weekend right now & is still working whilst on the move. Check out his temporary office in the back of the iLoad. Long nights.

Mick and I spent yesterday driving to Canberra which is about a nine hour drive for us then met up with Zac and Jacko and hit up a few spots. Originally we planned to leave Canberra at 9pm to drive the three hours to Sydney to stay there the night but we ended up lighting this spot up so Mick could get a real nice clip, it may have taken an hour and a half but it was worth it! We arrived in Sydney about 2am, it was a long day.

2020 BMX magazine V42

The new 2020 BMX Magazine just dropped here in Australia & you can check out a preview below. It’s awesome to see Dane Searls on the cover & there is a really touching feature in the pages about him as well.

Colony wise, look out for Brock Olive’s double page advert with our 2012 complete bikes. There is also a feature story on a Focalpoint trip Cooper, Marnold & Zac did in Canberra. Check it !!

Product highlight – Twenty Four Seven Bars

Cooper Brownlee has been graced with his first signature product in the way of his own bars. Aptly named because if you know Cooper, you know that his life is BMX 24/7. He never stops. Whether it’s behind the camera, in front of the camera, behind the laptop & on the bike. Cooper lives & breathes BMX. It’s for this reason we all love him.

Measuring in at 8.75″ high, 29.5″ wide with 12 degrees back sweep & 1 degree of up sweep, the Twenty Four Seven Bars should tick all the right boxes. Check them out at your nearest Colony dealer in Australia & the USA now with other countries very soon.
