Core Series but not really

Today I went to the Core Series final at Kuraby skatepark in Brisbane & it turned out to be a really good day. Alex Hiam ended up getting 2nd overall for the year in Pro & pocketed $250 towards the ‘Woodward’ fund. Stoked. I didn’t get around to taking any pics or getting any footage but I did capture this classic moment of a rider we all affectionately call, Snappa. He rules & this was definately the highlight while the skate finals were going. Pure BMX at it’s best. Enjoy.

Alex’s bike makeover… again

Alex has once again had a makeover on his bike & I am sure it won’t be the last. He changes his bike colour like most of us change our underwear. It’s all good though, whatever keeps him happy. Be sure to check Alex riding his new ride at the Core Series final at Kuraby this Sunday. Should be quite the show with Kuraby being his favourite place to ride in the world.

If you haven’t seen it yet click here for Alex’s web video from a few months ago.

Or check out this little edit Chris Courtenay made of his & Alex’s week in Melbourne a few weeks back.

Simon O’Brien in Japan

Simon O’Brien is over in Japan for 11 weeks doing shows with Michael Steingraber & Daniel Baker. He will also have the chance to hit up a couple flatland comps while there too. They also found a skatepark near where they are staying just outside of Tokyo so Simon will be kept very entertained during his stay. He also sent me these couple of pics before he left taken by Michael Harris, thanks Michael.

Epic BMX

On my last day in the states last week I visited a cool shop I had heard heaps about from Guettler called, Epic BMX. This shop certainly had one of the largest ranges of BMX stock on hand & are a very rider friendly shop. These guys know BMX & if you’re ever in the area do yourself a favour & drop in & say what up. Check out their website here as well.

Broken Bones Session

Better late then never but our distributor in the Ukraine, VeloJam, sent me this email about an event that happened over there a couple weeks ago & now I finally got around to posting it here. Read on below…

Yo Clint,

We just came back from a small but definitely nice event, called Broken Bones Session, held by VeloJam and sponsored with Colony, which took place yesterday in Kyiv at a small hand-made bike park. We had two categories – amateurs and pros. For the 1st place in pro we gave a way a Sect frame & many other Colony prizes.

We of course, experienced some probs with the weather, however, we did it! The dirt and water could not stop us to make those crazy people do some crazy stuff, like 360 from a drop or the flair in a small quarter.

Cheers, Bogdan.

Zac & Liam go to a birthday party…

A few weeks ago Zac & Liam thought it would be a great idea to go ride Rampfest one afternoon but when they arrived were told the park had been privately booked out for a birthday party. This meant they couldn’t ride, damn. Fortunately, the kid who’s birthday it was was cool enough to let them join the party & they got to session with the crew. Many thanks go out to Tom, the birthday boy, for letting Zac & Liam in on the fun. Greatly appreciated mate.

Due to Liam’s shoulder problem’s right now he has been only able to ride ramps of late & more so the foam & resi at Rampfest. Word has it that tricks like fronties, frontie drop-ins, double backies etc have been happening. Can’t wait to see Liam take those to the streets. He is due for keyhole surgery soon to have his shoulder fixed but will be back before you know it.

In other news Zac learnt flairs in like 3 goes which I guess helped him get 4th place at the recent Spinal Disorder in Melbourne. The boy killed it, good shit.

Heading home…

I am heading home from the US tonight & I gotta say it’s been an amazing trip. Thanks to everyone who showed us around, took us riding or partied with us as you all made it such a great time. Here is one last little bit of riding from Josh Boatright at Woodward West, he learnt these in like 4 tries, awesome.

Shane Badman checks in…

Shane Badman sent me an update on what he has been up too of late… read on below.

After finishing up the shows in Egypt, visiting Cyprus, Hungary & the UK, I’ve settled myself down for the moment in the south of Sweden with my lovely girlfriend Jo. We live in a small town called Staffanstorp which will be our home for the next little while. Even though we live in Sweden, we’re about 30 minutes from Copenhagen in Denmark & a few hours from Germany. Unfortunately, I’ve not come across any other riders in the area, so if there are any out there holla at me! In between learning some Swedish & riding I also dug up some footage I had lying around from around 2000. Check it out below.

Woodward West

Ryan had to leave the trip early for an LG comp elsewhere in the US. So Josh Boatright & I arrived at Woodward West today & I felt like a little kid again. This place is a ramp mecca beyond what I could ever have imagined. It’s totally ridiculous. Check some of the pics below for proof.

Tomorrow, weather permitting, we will go and check out Nasty’s trail jam nearby. Should be good to see.

Benihana’s

Jerry Badders took us to Benihana’s last night for an amazing dinner. It’s the 2nd time I have been there & it is an amazing place for dinner. Jerry & Ryan even rang ahead & said it was my birthday as a joke (it isn’t my birthday) & they sang me happy birthday in Japanese & they took our picture as seen below. Good times. Many thanks to Jerry for the hook ups while we were at his place the last two nights.

Visited Vans yesterday.

We visited the Vans offices yesterday & had a good little session on the mini ramp set up they have. Jerry Badders the team manager also showed us around the offices which was cool to see. We were also lucky enough to meet Steve Van Doren, the legend who started Vans back in ’66. He is a cool, totally down to earth guy, it was a treat to meet him.

We also saw some of the new colourways for Ryan’s Whip 2 shoe & they look awesome. Be on the look out for the Vans/Colony Whip 2 due out Jan/Feb next year.

The Pit…

Justin Kosman took us to a spot yesterday called the Pit. Ryan had been there before & loved the place but mine & Josh’s experiences were a little different to say the least. It’s basically a huge derelict waste water pit that has huge banks with subs all around it with various other obstacles to ride. A rather ghetto spot which I am sure can be lots of fun on the right day. Just wasn’t our day with the drinking that took place the night before… haha.

Today we’re going to Vans to ride the mini ramp there & then do some street riding in the arvo.

San Diego

We had our last day in San Diego yesterday & it was a fun one for sure. First we had to hit up the local BMX shop for some parts & it was a really cool store with everything 100% BMX. So good to see. EastCounty BMX was the name of the shop & they carried pretty much every cool brand around, including Colony. Stoked. If you’re ever in the area make sure you drop in & say g’day.

After that we went to the legendary Home Ave ditch & it was a real treat. We then headed back to the Mission Valley park for one more session. We are now in Carlsbad for the day & will do some street riding.

In San Diego now…

Myself, Guettler & Ryan’s friend Josh Boatright, arrived into San Diego last night & meet up with Steve Woodward & his mates. We had a bit of a night out on the town & witnessed the Woodward show in full effect. The man is an animal on & off the bike, it was a fun night. Today we are gonna go ride the Mission Valley park we have all seen so much of in videos & magazines. Should be a blast.

Nora Cup

Wow… I don’t remember much but I am pretty sure it was a great time. So many people I haven’t seen in ages it was so good to see them all. Some people won awards, everyone enjoyed the free drinks, the Levi’s DVD played but the highlight was seeing Stephen Murray there who presented the dirt award, which Bohan won once again. Many thanks go to Ride BMX for putting on a great night.

We have a winner!

Richo’s bike has been bought up after a pretty successful auction. We had many bid’s & I thank everyone who placed one. But it went in the end to a friend of Nick’s for $700. We even had one bid for $1,500 after the auction had ended! However, the bike will be put to good use as it’s the way for his friend to get back into riding after a few years off, so all is good.

Thanks again for all those that placed bids the cash raised will help pay off Nick’s medical debts. His operation by the way went very well & is on the long road to recovery very well.
