Today marks the 7th birthday for Colony as a company. It’s hard to believe that it’s been 7 years already. I would like to thank everyones support for us over the years. It’s been quite a ride to get to where we are now & we’re looking forward to many more years to come yet.
So thanks again to all our distributors, all the shops, all of our team, all of our employees, all the magazines & all the websites that have supported us from day one. More importantly, I would like to personally thank any rider out there who has ever bought one of our products or simply been down with what we’re about. Without all you guys, we would be nothing, so thank you.
We compiled a flipbook of photos pulled from the news posts over the past six years that the website has been live, enjoy…
As a special kind of celebration we have released our first ever road trip DVD from back in 2007. ‘A Month In The Life Of’ was filmed over the span of a few weeks starting in Beenleigh, Australia with the Spinal Disorder comp then road tripping from Brisbane down to Sydney for the BMX Games. We then met up with Dave Osato & headed over to New Zealand to explore the south island before returning to the north island for the last ever X-Air comp that went down in NZ. Good times.

Cooper Brownlee is a man of many talents. Whether it be with the artwork duties for us, our in-house photographer, team manager for all the guys, our in-house video editor & filmer he has it covered. He can also ride a bike damn well too & this video shows this rather well. I don’t know how he finds the time to do all that he does & still progress with his riding but he does. I was stoked to see this video & hopefully you will be too. Read on below for a little bit of what went into it…
Looks like it was filmed in a bunch of different cities, what city would be your favourite to ride & explore in Australia?
Yeah we filmed clips in Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane and Adelaide. That’s a real tough one though to answer as each state has its pros and cons, but if I had to pick one I would say Sydney, even thought there are no clips from Sydney in this haha.
For you personally were there any firsts for you in this edit?
The last 2 clips were for me and the over smith to bars was the first one I’ve done on street
If I remember correctly, the feeble easy 180 on the white rail at the start was your first one on street? And we were only there passing as we were getting kicked out. Did you secretly plan to do this trick previously, or was it a spur of the moment thing?I don’t remember you ever talking about it!
I honestly can’t remember if I’ve done one on a street down rail before but that white rail is so fun! Sam was filming me do a crooks combo on it originally but it wasn’t really working, I slipt onto a feeble one of the times and it got me thinking to try feeble 180. I honestly got real lucky on this one, just happened to be in the right spot for 180 on the 2nd attempt.
How does it feel to have your own signature bars out? How did it come about?
Yeah, real stoked! I had been running the first prototype set for about a year, I just put a new pair on last week. I was talking to Millar about needing a bigger set of bars and he hit me back with the idea. Definitely something to be stoked on, everytime I see a set on someone’s bike it’s a spin out!
It’s not often I see you crash so it was a surprise to see you go down on that ice grind. Did you take many other hits filming for this?
I have a lot of funny crashes because I mostly ride flat ledges and flat rails, I crashed pretty good on that feeble to hardway on the skinny ledge but it was mainly because I changed my mind when I got on the ledge to what trick I was going to do haha.
You have run a freecoaster for a number of years, and are now on the Colony prototype hub. Do you ever see yourself going back to a cassette or is it too important to your riding to think about going back? You may not do a huge number of fakie specific tricks, but I can see them not looking as good if you had to pedal backwards.
I can’t see myself going back at all really. These days I mainly ride street and I love it for it, like you said I don’t do a huge amount of coaster moves but it just feels so natural now and I love it!

What clip was the hardest to film?
The 180 wallride to opp smith 180 on the red banks took forever! 2-3 hours, we started when it was still daylight and when it got to dark we had to setup the generator haha. There was another clip I tried to film for this edit, going off the camera I tried it about 420 times over 3 visits with no luck! Hopefully I get it one day haha.
What would have been the most satisfying clip to film?
Probably the 2nd last clip just because I was stoked to ride a perfect ledge for it and get it pretty clean.

This video serves as testament to Brock’s riding abilities & serves as his official welcome to the pro team edit.
I had the pleasure of filming Brock over the past few months whenever I was in Brisbane along with a trip he made down here to Melbourne. Brock is a really fun guy to ride with because he will be keen to hit pretty much anything. Although he is stupidly good at riding bikes, he is very chilled about it all.
Congrats Brock & thanks for putting in the hard work.
Check Brock’s edit below along with a quick Q&A about filming for the edit.
What clip was the hardest to film?
Umm…The switch 50 to over whip because it was the first one I’ve done.
What would have been the most satisfying clip to film?
Probably the switch ice on that red rail.
For you personally were there any firsts for you in this edit? The 360 to smith to whip would have been the first time you’ve filmed that wouldn’t it?
I think probably half the edit was all firsts for me, I always like to film new and different stuff but yeah the 360 smith whip I actually filmed one of them the day before I filmed this one for my edit.
You don’t seem to have an opposite side pegs nowadays, how long have you been running 4 pegs?
Hahaha umm about 6 months I think with 4 pegs.
Any tips for people learning switch grinds?
Lots and lots of trying.
I know when you came to Melbourne one of the main spots you wanted to go to was the yellow flat rail, we also had a bit of a crown when we rode there. Were you happy with what you got at that spot and were the kids an issue for you?
Yeah that spots dope, I was happy with all the clips we got and the kids were fun to mess with they were all just so excited and some of them were telling me to wax the rail, pretty crazy.

Most of the clips we filmed were either on a flat ledge or a rail, what gets you stoked to want to ride those sorts of spots at the moment?
Yeah well since I’ve put 4 pegs on I’ve been grinding heaps more and yeah those spots are fun to grind and good to try and come up with different lines and tricks.
You took a few hard slams aswell, especially in Melbourne. Any of them really get to you?
Hahaha I’m a hack and crash all the time but none of them crashes worried me you just get used to it.
Our Canadian friends KEA Distro recently went on a team trip and our flow rider Brandon Van Dulken was on hand to shred it. Plenty of good moves in this so make sure you check it out. KEA have the entire range of Colony making it readily available to everyone in Canada, thanks guys!
Our boy Oskars Zajarskis from Latvia hows some great footage in this split edit with his friend Kristaps Reimanis, the park looks pretty fun aswell!
Alex Hiam broke his leg a little while back so the filming for this project was cut a little short but he still came through with a bunch of quality moves. You can read more about his frame here.
Liam Zingbergs spent a few weeks in Long Beach at the OSS house earlier this year & this edit is the end result. Liam had a great time & put some work in for this video. Some bangers for sure but I will let you check it out & decide for yourself. Enjoy.
A big thanks to everyone that showed Liam around & took care of him whilst he was there, it is appreciated.
Filmed & edited by Mike Mastroni.
Additional filming by Tony Malouf, Adam Grandmaison, David Grant & Tim Towie.

Bruno has some good clips in this edit from The Pegless Jam 5, that indoor park looks real fun!
We filmed these clips at Marnolds local park Ringwood sometime last year but never really planned what to use them for so here is a quick edit of some solid lines.
Filmed during a quick session before he moved back to Latvia, Oskars Zajarskis put together this video at The Alley skatepark in the UK. Doing it for Par BMX in Latvia.

One of my best days of riding ever was a few years ago over in Athens, GA. We rode the university there for a full day & could not get enough of the place. It was for me, the best day of street riding I had ever had and still stands as such today almost 5 years later. Check out the video below of that memorable day back in 2007 but first, we are supporting an event that happens there yearly. The Twilight BMX comp is going down on April 28th & should be a great day for all. If you’re in the area, get yourself along for the day.
