New team riders?

Yes, we have a couple new team riders in the works. More news soon… check back here in the next few weeks ahead.

Liam Zingbergs is back.

Liam recently got back from a three week trip in the USA…

“Hey guys me again, just a quick update. I just recently returned to OZ after a long stay in Cali. I spent all my time in long beach staying at the OSS house with my boy Tim, I could not believe how many spots there were, it was a pleasant change from what I’m used to haha. We met lots of awesome people who made the stay extra fun! As Millar would say I now have the travel bug as I’m itching to get back on a plane and do it all again thanks to Adam and everyone else who made our stay so pleasant. I’m off to Brisbane in a week or two so if you see me out and about come say hey. Until then, stay trill.”

Guettler Go Pro footage

Ryan has moved over to California now & is living right by the Sheep Hills trails. He has been digging there of late so he took some Go Pro footage running the lips in. Looks like fun.

Pete Radivo checks in…

Pete Radivo rules. He has been one of my all time favourite Australian riders for as long as I can remember. After all these years he still kills it with the most dialled tech & burly style. He can throw down at anytime, sober or not. Pete loves BMX & loves a good time with mates with a drink or twenty-two.

Pete sent in a quick update. Read on below to see what Pete got up too last weekend…

Myself and Little scotty went on a spur of the moment Canberra trip on Saturday arvo, got there Sunday lunchtime, haha. Went to Belco’s new park but was well packed out. Hit up Woden park for a 15 min sesh before the the rain hit. So we hit the pub instead. Sunday I hooked up with Cam White for a roll at Gungahlin skatepark. Fun sesh there. Got a couple of pics then drove home… Good weekend I say 🙂 – Pete.

Strictly BMX worldwide exclusive

Due for release today is the 3rd instalment of Strictly BMX team rider Mick Bayzand’s signature Colony Teddy V2 frames which we’ve produced in conjunction with Melbourne graff legend Kid Paris.

Paris is one of Melbourne’s graffiti pioneers starting out in 1984 who experienced the foundation period of Australia’s graffiti scene. By 1987 Paris forged partnership with DJ Peril (since 83) to form the crew “Claim To Fame” (C2F).

Peril and Paris were two early b-boys and much like their flamboyant fashion, they’re best known for their largest production wall on Swan Street Auctions legal in Burnley Australia (1988), due to its immeasurable scale, detail and immense personality, Paris aged 16, Peril 17 pulled off a mega burner which placed C2F crew on the map as one of the best productions to date. The two at their peak were some of the most influential style masters the city has ever seen.

Mick Bayzand, as we all know, is one of Australia’s baddest street riders to ever come out of the country & has been killing it for as long as I can remember. His Teddy Frame is also our best selling frame to date & for good reason.

Click here now to orders yours from Strictly BMX now.

Strictly BMX have dropped an edit (below) and flickbook in which Mick and Paris give you some insight into the way we approached the project. These frames are limited to 10 worldwide.

So get at Strictly BMX real fast on these babies as they wont last long.

Ryan Guettler checks in.

Ryan has had a busy few months and sent in an update for everyone…

So far 2012 has been an awesome year. The end of last year I realized Greenville is not the place for me anymore. So I made the decision to move back to California where I lived 6 years ago. Making this decision has really motivated me because I think repetitively doing the same stuff everyday in Greenville was putting me in a funk. Me and my girlfriend decided to take a flight out to Southern California to look for a new home. Luckily, we found one a block away from the famous sheep hills trails in Costa Mesa. I’ve grown up watching the Schwinn video American muscle with these trails in it for most of my life.

Before I left Greenville, I shot a lot of videos and photos of stuff I wanted to do before I moved which should be coming out soon. Another cool thing im excited about, its small but I painted my down tube on my bike black and restickered my bike and for some reason its just made me really happy haha.

The next big event was the Fise contest in Costa Rica. I’d been looking forward to this event since I heard about it back in January. I flew to Miami with Rob Darden but because his passport got washed in the washing machine he got departed back to Greenville not a happy pappy. Costa Rica is a really cool country, I couldn’t believe how friendly the locals were. And they were excited to meet us all in person. Because its hard they’re kind of secluded and don’t have access to amazing skate parks like we do. They kept telling us in Spanish how excited they were to have Fise come there. When I got to the event I was blown away about how big the dirt jumps were. The first jump had the be 38 feet but no one had ridden them because of the wind. The second day I was there was park qualifying and I qualified for the top 18 finals for that night. In qualifying the biggest stand out was Drew Bezanson he just came back from a serious head injury but he’s riding stronger than ever and that was just amazing to see. They ran the finals that night at 8:30 because they wanted live TV, I was not happy about this decision because the course was painted black and of course the sky was black. I felt this didn’t suit my riding because I focus on a lot of spinning tricks eg. 1080s, double flips. So I told myself ill keep it safe and put a lot of focus on dirt tomorrow. I still did runs I was excited about including flip whips and 720 turn down. The park event was one of the most amazing comps I’ve ever witnessed. Because at the end of our runs we were given a best trick and they didn’t care how long it took us to pull it. This brought out a lot of new tricks- double decade, 720 double tail whip, and a 360 flip tail whip. Crazy night.

Woke up excited for dirt ripped open the hotel curtains and sure enough hurricane like winds and black stormy skies. I still went to the event with fingers crossed but sat around all day waiting for the rain to die and the wind to go away. One cool thing that came out of this is the super rich guy who helped put on the event let us check out his Lamborghini and Ferrari’s, and even big daddy talked his way in to driving the Ferrari around the race track. Costa Rica was an amazing trip. Once I got back into America the mission was to drive from Greenville, NC to Costa Mesa, CA.

Let me point out that ive never driven over 5 hours and the biggest trailer ive ever pulled is the one that pulls my lawn mower just a few blocks down the street. We pulled a 27 foot car carrying trailer packed to the ceiling. We did 9 hours the first day, but then I kicked into driving mode and did 19 hours the following day, and 20 the last day into California. Crazy we made the trip in 3 days when we were expecting to do it in 5 or 6. Driving that many hours in one day is unreal. We saw so much different landscape and weather it was unbelievable. We would start out in the morning driving in snow, then it would turn into flat deserts by the afternoon we would be going up the steepest mountains. One scary event on the roadtrip was being almost overtaken by a semi truck until its tire exploded causing him to lose control and almost taking us off the road with him. I just pinned it and didn’t look back. My heart was racing. But we got to California safe and sound. This morning I unpacked the trailer, went down to the beach to get lunch, and tonight we’re going to the supercross race to cheer on our boy Chad Reed. Tomorrow morning ill put my bike together and let the good times begin.

An oldie but a goodie…

The Selftitled DVD was released in 2006 & features O.G. Colony team riders, Ryan Guettler, Nick Richardson, Kenny Raggett, Haimona Ngata, Pete Radivo & myself along with a large crew of riders.

It took us 3 years to film for this & it took me 9 months of editing. Crazy thing is after 9 months of editing, my hard drive crashed & we nearly lost the whole damn thing. After an epic 12 hour straight drive from Brisbane to Sydney, had Matt Holmes save the day with his Mac savvy knowledge. Thanks Matt !!

This one for me, is full some amazing memories & a chapter in my life that I will never forget. Good times for sure.

Valvo – Ten Clips V2

Another 10 clips edit from Valvo. This was from an afternoon down at Browns Plains park which Valvo had never seen before but seemed to really enjoy. It must have been 40 degree’s this day but it still all worked out.

Paddy Gross checks in.

The ever so humble Paddy Gross shot through an update…

“Since I moved from Germany to the USA at Christmas, I’ve been going through a heap of changes. First of all, my girl and I got married after being together for a while. I’ve gotten really lucky with her and besides that she’s relaxed and uncomplicated, she’s a surfer and she loves me being on my bike and knows what it means to me, just very different from what I’ve experienced.

Other than that, my mom lives in Portland, Oregon and I’ve been coming to this place for almost ten years. I’ve made some good friends over the years such as Chester Blacksmith, Andy Merrall, Shad Johnson, Justin Inman and so on, who are now my daily riding mates. Just the in the state of Oregon alone there has to be more than a hundred concrete skateparks so it doesn’t get boring at all (check here). Also, the legendary Burnside skatepark under a highway bridge is one of the playgrounds I hang out at. This park is made out of real rough concrete and you can just feel by pushing around that it is made by hand a long time ago, a seriously amazing park with a million lines. The winter is still going on but we’re having a heap of sunny days and a new edit is already in the works. Since my mom has had a major health problem I am working in her bike shop a lot and I am taking care of the BMX section also which is heaps fun and a good way to introduce Colony to the kids. I am excited for everything happening this year and also my next Australian visit is in the works. Thanks heaps for letting me share what’s going on in my life with all of you and thanks for reading. Have fun shredding and stay happy and healthy. Cheers, Paddy.”

Shintaro Misawa sent in a quick email on what he has been up to of late…

My old friend from Japan was visiting Malaysia last week. He is also from the same town, Machida Tokyo. The town has a summer festival every year, including BMX show organized by his father. I first saw this festival 15 years ago. It was what got me into riding BMX.

He is a well known photographer, Mr Motoyoshi Yamanaka. This time he has work in Thailand, for photo shooting at Chiang Rai International MTB Challenge. So, came to visit my place in Malaysia to see me. Alright, please check the photo from our session.

Atilla Godi update

Atilla shot us through an update from Hungary, it seems it’s been snowing of late keeping him off the bike on the regular. Check this photo of his local park from yesterday, -18 degrees and 35cm of snow! Quite the opposite to here in Australia.

On the road

Mick and I are in Adelaide right now filming for some up and coming web videos. Dodging the rain was the challenge on the first day, hopefully we get some better weather the next few days.
